Wednesday Walls by Pablo

Two gifts Pablo received years ago from a Japanese client. In Japanese culture it is traditional to bring a gift when you visit someone. The fan is made in Korea and the ball is from Japan. Pablo wanted to display these gifts and I was stumped as to where. We decided to place them on the wrought iron curtain rods as an extra ornament and it added a touch of red to an otherwise green/tan living room. I also think they have a fun festive quality. I have a red bird (fake) in
a nest in the chandelier for more red but that's another story!
Kitchen update: Today begins the scraping and patching of cabinet walls and the start of painting the base coat...the cabinets will be painted "muslin" ...an off white. I'm writing this to the tune (errr noise) of the saw doing some outside repairs. Not much in the studio today.

  1. Hi Mary Ann, I just love a touch of RED...great focal point too. And RED is a very lucky colour to have around according to some cultures. I love quirky Japanese "stuff"...a fellow Aussie blogger, who lived in Japan, collected a heap of Japanese branding for me, mainly sweet wrappers etc etc...fun designs, just like your lovely pieces.

  4. i think i hear that sawing noise myself. i agree with all, a touch of red is nice. interestingly, my dad, chief of pathology at a hospital, had many Asian interns who worked for him through the years. and yes, they gave him gifts so that a number of lovely items became part of mom and dad's decor and i have a few from that time myself.

  5. The pieces are quite lovely. The red ball is all thread, right? Imagine spending the time to wind the ball and create a pattern as well. It is very lovely. And the cat fan is a symbol of luck with his paw upraised. And look what luck Pablo has, he got you!!!!

  6. eh? i couldn't hear you over the whine of the saw. hee hee i don't envy you being there with all that noise. it would be quite unnerving. i like the japanese decorations. i can see how just those 2 spots of red would make a room happier.

  13. Love how you displayed these gifts. Unexpected and able to be admired daily. I like using things that way, napkins as valences, teacups as soapdishes...
