Juno Calling

These are the three of the many moons of Jupiter. They are mixed media pieces using wide variety of materials. The series began around 2012 and I so enjoyed taking a look at our planets, moons and stars in our solar system. I created these relying on my art making skills, science info and mythology! With the REAL exploration going on I can't help smiling about my take on these moons and what information will be coming back on the real discoveries! The titles beginning at the top "Excavation of Ganymede". "Collisto's Heart" and last "Oceans Europa".

Orange All Around

I have here a real mix of Orange as examples of today's Roy G Biv day search. The first one is a mixed media piece on a wood panel which includes paper, paint and cloth. The second piece is all beeswax on wood except for the square buttons and paper writing strips and the third is a cloth piece which includes stitching, beads and ink. For more places to search out Orange you might visit Julie and Jennifer

Entourage or Motley Crew?

Being a mixed media artist it wouldn't be difficult to explain my mix in favorite men. These are just a few of the living or dead men I would willingly spend time with...some easy to enjoy on a dance floor and others I'd rather dream of a starlit night on the Willow Manor patio or a shadowed corner of the room? Ha

Jeff Bridges and his "Big Lebowski"...fun hearing all about Hollywood and the inside stories of filming. Jeff Bridges has an affable smile and the Dude likes white Russians...nice combination!
Robert Reich former Secretary of Labor...I always like a handsome face, nice voice and a head full of brains!
Frederic Chopin goes without saying....he was genius and his romantic music leaves me breathless.
Bob Dylan...speaking of breathless...I just love the guy!
Pablo Neruda...who wouldn't want to sit next to him and have him read one of his poems!
Pablo Picasso....Always!
Javier Bardem...Good acting, great characters and a charming face...intriguing!
Julian Schnabel...fine artist, fine director, huge ego and charming as well!
Van Diesel playing Hannibal...I've always liked Hannibal (I am a peaceful person?)his campaigns against Rome, his elephants...I've been told he was the greatest General and now this Van Diesel will be Hannibal in 2010l...I would like to hear his approach on playing this giant.

Ride to Venus

Just for a change of pace I'm posting a piece from another series "Early Morning Ride to Venus" 26"x22" mixed media including paint and soft pastel.
This series was about my creative journey to the planet and stars via mythology and some scientific info. The dark morning departure reminds me of my early childhood. Summer vacations would begin with my parents packing up the car and getting out on the road by 4a.m....very exciting to a little girl. The clocks and dials and railway ticket is my take on a Jules Verne dashboard. The black bird as navigator and off to Venus looking to love again and given the difficulty of life on Venus...not an easy trip!
Thank you for all your well wishes for my recovery. I am getting better, slow but it is happening. Thank you to Patrice over at www.patrice-makingpeace.blogspot.com/ for featuring me and this blog...I am so grateful to have her in my life. Pablo is a stranger in the kitchen so friends and neighbors have been bringing over wonderful meals...a big part of gaining my strength!

"Thinking"

" Time in Orange "8"x8" mixed media. Because it is the second piece in a set of 3, I already knew the all over color would be greyed down, silver leaf would be a strong element and the bottom section would be a collaged line marking system. The addition of the three squares around the stitched circle was a choice that seemed balanced after many other attempts. (thinking) The stitched circle consisted of layers of netting, lace and rows of stones. The process can be long or short depending on when I can say the elements speak of the vision of inner glow and compliment and work as one piece. This is not art from observation but rather from inside out, holding to both freedom and boundries.
Reporting on the afternoon in Carmel...great! Forgot the camera but that turned out to be okay. We had lunch in a sunny courtyard cafe and later drinks on the edge of a meadow. It was a day to include sunny observations, sounds, smells, some silence, some silliness, snacks, flavors and very few details. The day was brushed with wide brush strokes!

Sales equal Encouragement?

Mixed media on paper...Arches printmaking paper. The finished look, matted, under glass has a polished and sophisticated appearance. This piece is important to the series as it is the mother to the next 10. I had worked with the concept of the human & divine in abstract forms but this one showed me so much potential. Right away, I wanted to explore more ways to express these odd shaped stitched circles within squares as a way of clarifying the spiritual mix. I was also encouraged to continue when this piece sold off my studio wall!
This is my second post and it has taken me nearly a week to get to it...I am humbled and want to congratulate all you bloggers that post lively, interesting blogs with regularity. I don't feel my life is busy...just Pablo (new husband) and me here at the beach. We have our routines but slow paced for sure. I've kept a journal for over 25 years so I thought it would be an easy transition for me only I find myself concerned with spellcheck, making sense(not easy for a visual artist) and fun...things that never concerned me when I was keeping my journal just for myself. I have on my list to see about flickr and some ways to spread out into this vast new world. I promise to get to fun soon but for now I'm glad to be out here taking my first few rides!
