Moon Entrance

9"x14" tea stained fabric, crochet piece, silver leaf, embroidery and machine stitching, digital photo on cloth.
Time in the studio has been limited and there have been so many stops and starts. This small piece has had many directions and several 'lost days'. I used a digital transfer of a loved sketch of phases of the moon. Last resort was taking this to my sewing machine and let some free stitching create these precious views. I'm loving the variations of mottled stain on these different fabrics...very little control and plenty of surprises. The rest of July and into August will be slow paced which I think is good for an artist of my age...a gathering of myself and unfolding ideas and looking for tattered beauty.

Mirroring Images

19"x20" Rives BFK, print from a collagraph plate which includes screen, netting and cut matt board, acrylic ink, old cloth with crochet (my mother's handwork) my bird stencil, graphite and acrylic glazing

Placing the two prints side by side began a dialogue in my journal.of all the images and all the judgements  good and bad while looking into the mirror. The vessel shape resembles a bottle of perfume my grandmother kept on her mirrored vanity...cut amber glass with little legs. This is my second in the Sacred Vessel Series and becomes a container for all the needless appraisals of mirror images and a reminder not to get caught up in the song of appearances but rather in the acceptance of a sturdy body available for life to be lived.

Village Memories

I've re-posted the photo of the village lino cut from March 15th and now the result of that print is the 11'x11' piece in golds, greys, reds and black. My conversation began with the topic of memories and with the beginning of adding acrylic the print started lifting, floating and smearing while I began dabbing, blotting and wildly brushing. It was a back and forth effort at which point I added linen, plastic netting, photo collage to finish the 'scene'. It feels like a memory...not mine but maybe a memory floating in the cosmos. I'd much rather work in the abstract but this little village was a fun distraction.
The other photo is of a crochet matzos cover I made a few years ago for my holiday table. My crocheting had some major flaws so always the artist, I sewed on leaf applique' to hide the obvious errors and painted the leaves with fabric paint...added beads and a linen backing! Speaking of holidays....Happy Holidays and Spring Joy to each and every one!
