Fearlessly Flying Home

7"x8", fabric created by loose drawing of a ruin (archaeology magazine) with water soluble ink and following lines with freestyle machine stitching with addition of embroidery.

6"x8", circular bronze stamp, free style machine stitching and assorted embroidery stitches

6"x8" assorted pieces of cloth, scraps and printed papers. Free style machine stitching and variety of embroidery stitches.

I began this exploration using fabrics gifted to me by Constance Rose  , letting the cloth with its mottled markings speak to me as I followed these shapes with my freestyle sewing attachment. it was like driving with little steering and no brakes...fun and the shapes rather loose and interesting. I added  varied amounts of embroidery and the piece in the middle became moving shapes of wings and butterflies. The bottom one with added papers became a wall to me, old and held together by time. The third and top piece is a drawing i made with a water soluble ink pen of an old ruin. I started and stopped many times with all three pieces which left me feeling unsure of myself and direction. Now that these three pieces are complete, I'll connect them and frame as one piece. Sometimes I just need time away from the work to get a better perspective. I know I liked the freestyle stitching but not sure how that will fit with the next project. Onward to June!

Yupo: TIME

8"x8", Yupo paper, acrylic, collage and ink. I placed this mosaic to better see the progress of this adventure in Yupo. What did I learn? This paper can handle lightweight fabric and paper collage. Glazing worked well or at least I'll try it again.
Below is the 'conversation' that I wrote as I began this piece and referred to as I painted. I'm looking forward to creating nine more and I have topics to consider from 'forgiveness' to' choices' to 'belonging'...nine in total!

I have also finished my last of the three large pastel pieces having to do with wings and my long standing meditation. I had a place in mind to hang these three...a lovely restaurant with smooth concrete walls. I was willing to approach the owner with my photos and I planned on special framing. Alas, the restaurant has closed...sign of the times. So now I will photograph and then carefully store them in a safe place unframed until I see a place that will work.

TIME

In space
Where cares are few
In light
Where all is seen
In circles
Where movement is guaranteed
Counting what has been
Counting on what will be
Black marks making secret wishes
Is there time?
Time enough for me?

On My LivingRoom Wall

Canvas, acrylic 50"x54" by artist Mike Vigil. He is from an artists family...his father was a well known Southwestern artist Veloy Vigil and he has a brother Dan who also paints.

Years ago in my late 30's and into my 40's I wore all black, carried a journal constantly , drank quarts of espresso and met with other artists in coffeehouses all over town. I was taking classes , workshops and had rented my first studio space, My children were in school which allowed me the time to explore my art making and begin to build a career. I was always visiting museums and galleries. One winter our family vacationed in Scottsdale, Arizona where we visited more galleries. My husband saw this painting and really liked it...said it reminded him of me? I liked it as well and he bought it and had it shipped home. I love owning this piece and it holds a special place in my heart as it was one of the last gifts I received from my husband as he past away shortly thereafter. I mostly keep it on the living room wall but sometimes move it to another room. I never get tired of it and love the colors...turquoise etc... I've had difficulty photographing it in this winter light but the colors are true only brighter in better light.

I've put aside my 'wings' painting and living with it...I think there will be yet another small change. Yesterday I began another large piece and so it begins again. I am writing and drawing and letting it all evolve...the search is on! ha

This afternoon, my friend Florie is visiting...bringing some decaf Chai and I'm supplying the lemon pie. We need to visit and keep up with one another so this will be perfect. We usually meet at a coffeehouse (old habits die hard, I rarely go to coffeehouses... still wear my black!) but it is cold and rainy so we are keeping it in-house!
