The Shared Birthday

A double birthday...a date I hold in my heart and as long as I can...I'll remember. She gave me dreaming, imagination, story and creative play...actually they both did, my mom and sister. So added to that mix my father's strong golden hands and I'm an artist...what a lovely legacy. Happy Birthday, in memory , mom and sister, Caroline.

  1. Wonderful as usual: The women we rail against yet hold in our hearts like a two edged sword. Who would we really be without them? I love the coats and hats, such a memory, I have that same picture!!

  2. Hey, Hey, Hey! Happy Birthday indeed. My mom would have loved your posting from yesterday. She sure loved you and admired your creative and artistic talents. The two of you were an amazing team when it came to home deco design. She could often dream it but you could really make it happen - you had the skills she admired. Those Trading Spaces and home makeover shows got nothing on you two!
I fondly remember many Aug. 17 in Yosemite - little blue & white trailer, clean swept canvas to keep freshly washed grandkids clean (for at least 5 minutes).
    Memories are ours to keep!
    Love U

  4. Beautiful post. The dreaming and the creativity came from the women. The will to bring it into being came from the man. And how blessed you are to recognize the mix that is yours!

Great photograph. I love the way your mother looms large. The very picture of archetypal Mom.

  5. Dona, It's amazing how many family photos of that time look so similar. I have several where my mom is trying to keep me in the picture frame and at the same time keeping me neat and herself smiling!

  7. Suki,
The birthday was shared by my mom and sister. I was three years younger than my sister...we lined up for our pictures every holiday...it's amazing to see the different fashions all in black and white.

  8. San, I so enjoy reading your insights, thank you. It has taken a lifetime for me to see and accept the gifts of family, friends, lovers and husbands...Now maybe smooth sailing?! ha
