Well here we are in the search for Roy G Biv Day, only today is extra where the search widens to the color gray. I chose these three because they were made with mostly my hand carved leaf stamp. I've used this stamp in many projects but these two show it best. I like carving an image out of soft rubbery material and I like to see it transform into a print. The title for the first piece is "Leaves of Heaven" and the second one "Tree of my Life". There is one leaf that is beaded! For more examples of gray drop by jennifer and julie

Oh, these are wonderful pieces. You just reminded me I have a similar hand-carved stamp that I haven't used in eons. How big are these finished pieces? Have a great day!
ReplyDeleteThank you! The first one is 12" square and the tree is approx 14"x24" I've used this stamp is several other pieces and stitching too. Have you heard the song " I'm the Last Leaf on the Tree" by Tom Waite? One of my favorites. Lately I've been enjoying "Make it Rain" by Tom...can you tell I am a fan?!
DeleteThe simplicity of your leaf stamp is lovely ... and so adaptable. I can see why you use it often.
ReplyDeleteSimple works for me...years as a printmaker carving into wood...this rubber stuff is a picnic!
DeleteWhat beautiful pieces, Mary Ann - there's so much going on in each of them! And I just love the leaf as a symbol/shape/inspiration for the imagination...
ReplyDeleteThank you...I agree, the simple shape of a leaf is perfection!
DeleteBeautiful work. Really love the top piece
ReplyDeleteThanks for the visit...I was thinking you had closed up your blogland site...I will stop by and see what is going on in your studio!
DeleteLove the geometry of the first piece and the reminder as the woods turn golden that the underside of some leaves are grey. Next time I'm in the forest, I'll look out for them.
ReplyDeleteAnnie, Thanks for the drop by and the insights...I think the color gray is mystical and rare and beautiful in nature. So glad you are reopening your blog, I'll be sure to visit!
DeleteYou have used gray, and your leaf stamp, in such wonderful ways in both these pieces. They're both really striking, and of course I'm kind of a tree connoisseur. Beautiful!
ReplyDeleteSharmon, Thank you about these grays! I keep my tree framed and over my work table...personal inspiration for me.
DeleteThe tree motif is something I love, and the tree you've created with your leaf motif is wonderful.
ReplyDeleteMaya, Thank you...trees are so wonderful...all kinds!
DeleteI enjoyed seeing your use of your stamp in work featuring grey, I pledge to try some more grey in my own work. Thank you for sharing.
ReplyDeleteThank you. We all have colors we go to easily and then others we have to include on purpose...glad you stopped by!
