Time Enough Code

10" x 10" metallic acrylic, silver leaf, metallic oil stick, stencil and green glazes.

Oh, you should have seen it Monday or Wednesday and here it is very different on Sunday. I've added, sanded, carved and glazed all  in that place of not knowing??...frustrating indeed! The code came from my secret code site and is a system called ' route transcriptions. ' I like the code shapes combining with the a portion of my stenciled clock and circles. I'm still exploring the metallics?!!! I have one more small one and then move to a larger size. I'm hoping for a breakthrough, a place I might surprise myself.

July is building up to be a busy month, out of state guests, day trips planned, home repairs and pool time! Could be slow going in the studio but I will still visit blogs in the morning and I will try to post when I get something new to update!! Happy July....the heart of summer!

  1. I love your work! :) Just had to comment, since I found this code myself in a book as a kid in a used book store on a vacation to North Carolina! LOL I'll have to look it up so I can see what it says on your painting! :)

    1. Seems to me 'not knowing' is that sweet creative impulse that keeps us going even if we don't find the answer...I must remember it is the journey! Thank you for your encouragement.

  3. Don't worry, Mary Ann; something useful will come out of that place of not knowing, frustrating as it can be at times. I like the idea of codes, too, as I have studying the evolution of language, myself. So interesting, this business of communication...

  7. I'm detecting a lot of depth in this piece - it almost comes off as 3 dimensional as I view it here.

  9. haven't been here in a bit, and your work is so different. I love the idea of "code" and as a child had all sorts of symbols homemade. I think its in our "code" to encode... enjoy your summer guests and the pool. Thurs we hit almost 90 after a pretty cool summer so far. I thought it was fall the other day.

  10. Looks like some delicious textures going on here, and the metallics are shining through nicely. Very mysterious and ancient feel to it, yet high-tech/computer geekish/outer spacey at the same time.

Warm your soul with that sunshine!
