From my studio walls to yours "Happy Winter Solstice". It all begins to turn this Friday whether we notice or not. These short days become longer and the time of darkness changes as well. Below are some of my thoughts on winter ( printed in my catalog; see sidebar) and written several years ago but seem to still fit for me this winter.
This dark winter season holding dreams yet dreamed
Warmed by hopes of the promised gifts of Spring
Planting those beginning seeds in dark moonless evenings
Faith in gifts of ancient souls
Find the chant, no the humming lullaby for the tired heart long traveled,
Ring the bells, turn the prayer wheel. This winter of finding and
Accepting my soul's rhythm has begun.
Beautiful walls and beautiful thoughts in this dark season. In the meantime, little twinkle lights do their very best to fill the dark of evening...happy holidays Mary Ann.
ReplyDeleteThank you Leslie...many happy hours to you and yours this holiday season...lots of twinkle lights! I've been enjoying a few large candles lit early in the evening.
Delete"This winter of finding and
ReplyDeleteAccepting my soul's rhythm has begun".... lovely words, Mary Ann. Your work is looking very good, framed and hanging on the wall together.
Robyn, Thank you! Lately when I finish a piece and if I really like it...it gets framed right on the spot! I have been switching out from my inventory of frames so its pretty easy to change most of my walls...a spirit lifter!
DeleteI have always thought of winter as an incubator nursing the seeds of our future dreams... Have a beautiful holiday season Mary Ann...
ReplyDeleteCaterina, I so agree. I find it a great time to write down new dreams and plan on new adventures and sometimes looking back to see if I played enough, laughed enough and even cried enough...living full out...Happy Holidays!
DeleteSo lovely, Mary Ann, both the art on your walls and that inspirational poem. You have captured the essence of this part of the turning of Earth's wheel; it's a time for healing, for allowing the seeds to rest in the ground, waiting for the sun. Have a beautiful and warm holiday season!
ReplyDeleteSharmon, You said it so well...a time for healing and allowing the seeds to rest until the return of the warm sun. I might add a time of trust and faith in that process...Happy Holiday Season!
DeleteI really appreciate seeing your work framed and hung together. It gives a much clearer picture of your achievements - rather than seeing individual pieces on the blog. Have a happy holiday.
ReplyDeleteI agree Bridget on hanging work. I am no longer looking for space to hang so this is my opportunity to see the work together and on the walls. Something wonderful about frames!
Deleteso beautiful! I received a copy of your book the other day... I am enjoying it slowly:-)
ReplyDeleteLaura, Thank you!! I rarely find out who has ordered one of my catalogs...so nice to know its you...enjoy and yes reading this little catalog slowly is a good way!
DeleteYou have had quite an accomplished year, Mary Ann! Your work is so inspiring. Your words make me think and reflect; they remind me how different it must be to winter in CA (as I always have) as compared to the long and dark winters of Minnesota and other snowy stark landscapes to the North. Blessings.
ReplyDeleteKaren, I've had a busy year...some work is overflowing into other rooms, some have sold and some are waiting their turn!
DeleteI agree our winter is not so dark or so cold but I sure love my polarfleece sheets!
It's here MA! The winter solstice..promise of warmth and light. Such beautiful expressions have been birthed in your studio this winter.
ReplyDeleteJoyfulwild, No sign of lighter days today but we know it begins today...trusting the unseen!!
DeleteThank you, it has been a productive fall and now winter!
What fun to see your work framed and curated so beautifully. Looks like a gallery. And love your solstice words. I have been taking lots of quiet time to revive so can identify with "the tired heart long travelled".
ReplyDeleteYes, happy solstice to you.
I think all work is so much better when presented in frames or with some type of finishing touches! Thank you!
DeleteLove the painting on the wall! And your thoughts of winter...still....before you know it, new growth will be coming. Happy Holidays!
ReplyDeleteannell, So good to see your avatar...yes, new growth on its way!
DeleteYour work looks so good framed and hung, and honoured. Its good to be reminded that we have touched the bottom of the seasonal darkness and the light is creeping back into the sleeping land, especially when I know there are many cold months of winter yet ahead. Good to have a positive light to shine on it all!
ReplyDeletelouciao, I imagine you see winter at its darkest where I am complaining over sunny and cool at 55'but we do have rain.
DeleteMy biggest problem with framed work is running quickly out of wall space. I always seem to be changing the images and I admit when I do it changes the rooms and me!
