"Pocket of Cures"

measures approx. 5"x10", block printed muslin stitched to felt, green silky remnant found in fabric box, assorted beads and wire. One of my first efforts in creating a complete fabric piece. The X printed section was taken from my sample pile featured in the last post photo...far bottom right. I stitched around the X's and then added this green fabric. It is important to me that I stay connected to my journal writing and exploration of biblical archeology so you might say this is my first and very own 'artifact'. My work table is an amazing mess...what with the paints, prints and then the pins and thread all piled high with fabrics.

Our neighborhood had a joint car port sale this past weekend and I wandered around and found a book on all matters of stitching and quilting etc...I believe it will be a great reminder on some of those tricky stitches! I have planned to try  applique and continue to sew beads which I need a new pair of eyes to thread the needle. My father had a big magnifying lamp but I gave it away because I Never thought I would need it?!

  1. this is wonderful. i like to think there is a pocket of cures. my fisherman friend had one of those magnifiers so he could tie flies. one reason i dont do much beading is threading the needle plus getting the right needle size to accommodate beads. Love the thought of your messy table. all manner of wonderful things shall arise from this.

    1. Suki, What a delight to receive a visit and with good words too! I bought an assortment of needles but it is still hard going even under bright light!

  2. Mary Ann, this piece reminds me of the Ethiopian healing scrolls. Some of them have cross designs within a grid. Each scroll is as long as the person is tall and it is rolled up into a little leather bag and worn around the neck of the person who needs the healing. I love the thought of a pocket of cures.

    1. Robyn, Fascinating about the healing scrolls...we would all be better with our own leather bag as a life force.

    1. Jeane, Thank you...Feels so good to dig into some of these boxes and discover all new/old materials...and then a few trips to the store for additional supplies!

  4. May Ann this is simply fabulous. I think the sign of enthusiasm is a messy happy work table! I look forward to seeing where your explorations lead you.
You could get an Ott light with a magnifier...I see a bit better if I throw a lot of light on some thing. Now I know why my grandmother said she couldn't work with black yarn at night...

    1. Leslie, Thank you for your encouragement. I'll look into the Ott light. My grandmothers and mother always had a filled basket near there favorite chair...always a project.

  6. I love that title, and the "bag" truly does look like an artifact from another time and place (the depths of your soul, perhaps?) Always a good sign, creatively, to be in a messy situation.
