Post to 4-24 Unknown Outcome

Still acrylic on Rives BFK paper, still measures 18" x 18". I am reporting a couple more approaches of several hours and I feel it is done. The columns speak to me in many ways and several of the spirals were made with a rugged stamping process. There was writing on the bottom, light colors, stripes but the bottom of the piece is dark now, the writing covered and it seems to anchor the columns...I like it. I thought of the artist Hundertwasser through out so you might say this is my ode to him and his dedication to the natural line and shapes.
This week has been the start of my new studio hours ...mon., wed., fri., several hours each day. Tuesday and Thursday I push all my obligations...laundry, shopping, banking, and swimming or movies and although it makes two full days, it allows empty hours for work. I am serious about building new work for a website.
Lately I have been feeling like an artistic dinosaur....I was on a site recently site.booksmartstudio.com/blog/ viewing a show called ALTERNATIVE DIGITAL PRINTING EXHIBITIONS by selected artists. I didn't have a clue on how most of the work was completed. I just know I loved several pieces in the show. One especially by Deena Haynes (friend)... her piece is a digital image heat pressed on metal!!! Beautiful! Drop by the site just for a look...some lovely pieces. As for being a dinosaur, well, I just don't have these skills but I so admire the art...the question I ask myself, do I continue with my skills for my vision or do I take on new more modern skills for my visions? I will compromise and read a book titled "Digital Art Studio"...we shall see?!
This Saturday we are going on an Architectural Home Tour. We will review a map and travel to each home. The money for the map goes to support Habitat for Humanity so it's a good cause and I get to do what I love...check out other people's homes!! Have a good weekend!

  1. I like the tactile aspect of working with paint, papers and mark making. I do see the great beauty of digital work as well. So, my initial response is that there are different ways to create, equally valid. As for the feeling of being a dinosaur, some days….but we do have blogs.;o)

  4. A new website...my antenna is up for more info when you're ready to dish it out. This is a great piece. I think we all start to feel a little pre-historic in our own fields of interest but the mere fact that you are aware of the new and different things is sure proof that you are not a dinosaur - and you're curious. All good.

  5. Mary Ann, I'm sure I would enjoy the home tour.

I'm not up to snuff on the newfangled digital techniques. (Did I say that in a dinosaurish way?) :-D I do love what you are doing with color and texture here in this un-digital art. The columns and the spirals provide a mythical, historical feel. Much of your work has that and I find it very appealing.

  6. Leslie, I agree with you, they both have their beauty...I guess I just want to know everything!

Willow, Thank you and I will take my camera to the tour...I'm especially looking for kitchen designs as mine needs an overhaul.

Julie, Good for you working in the evenings...I'm worthless after dinner...a bit of a noodle. How nice your husband enjoys cooking and such...you have found a good man!

  9. I find that very fun and livable. I like the coulmns also.
Sometimes I feel like I come from another planet and this is one of those times. What does "Post to 4-24 Unknown Outcome" mean? It probably is so obvious that it went over my head.

  10. Pat, It all seemed clear to me but then I live alone in my head and only talk with a few people! !ha The title means this art is connected to April 24th post titled "Unknown Outcome"...scroll down and you will see the art in it's firt stage.

  11. Your column piece is most intriguing, and I love the dark weight at the bottom.
I too like 'getting my hands into the work', but admire all forms of art.
I've ventured into the art digital world, and it's too far into the left brain for me,,all the programs and applications that I figured out, I couldn't remember how to use again. It became too much work and not enough fun, so I stepped back. There are however, many people of our age who do this stuff, and do it well!

  12. I'm around college kids all the time, believe me I feel like I'm older than biblical dirt at times, but not all the time...as much as I have admired the digital art and the site specific installations (which always made me feel out of step with the times even when I was an art student!) I just love getting my hands dirty and a Monday at the day job isn't right unless I can still find a piece of my Sunday still underneath my fingernails! You become a dinosaur when you stop learning and stop doing...and the blogs have been sooooo inspiring! I love the columns too...the colors are splendid!

(I really do need to stop surfing the net this morning...and get to work...so that I have some of Sunday with me on Monday morning!)

  14. There is an historical feel to this painting and yet it is modern.
You won't believe it but I'm also squeezing all non-art things (chores) into Tuesdays and Thurdays so that I have art time on the other week days.

  15. Babs, Thank you for the reminder about some of this digital work being too left brained...takes the pressure off!

Jules, I'm liking it too...this is my second week and I'm staying true
    to my schedule!

Laura, dirt under the fingernails...or paint, or ink! Me, inspiring? thank you!
